What is Optovue?
Optovue is an industry-leading eyecare technology company that researches, designs, and manufactures OCT equipment. The team at West Broward Eyecare Associates uses Optovue equipment to examine your eyes in detail, diagnose eye diseases in their earliest stages, and create customized treatment plans to restore your eye health and protect your vision.
The Optovue iWellness scan provides information about the thickness of your retina and the ganglion cell complex in a report that compares your measurements with a database of healthy eyes. Your eye doctor uses this information to identify the early stages of retinal disease and glaucoma.
Optovue Q&As
WHAT IS OCT IMAGING?
OCT is a non-contact imaging test that takes cross-section pictures of your retina. OCT allows your eye doctor to examine the different layers of your retina, measure their thickness, and map their shapes. The scans also show your doctor the blood vessels in your eye, which is critical as abnormal blood vessels are the root cause of a wide range of eye health problems.
OCT measurements are essential to the early detection of eye diseases like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. These eye diseases don’t usually cause any noticeable symptoms or changes in your vision until your retina is permanently damaged. When the team at West Broward Eyecare Associates diagnoses eye diseases early, they provide treatment that can save your sight.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING OPTOVUE OCT SCANNING?
Optovue OCT scans are noncontact and painless. You rest your face in a frame on the OCT machine and gaze into the device. The Optovue equipment scans one eye at a time.
Depending on your eye health and needs, your eye doctor might provide dilating eye drops before your scan. The scan takes a few minutes, and your eye doctor gives you a moment to blink a few times and rest between eyes.
If your eye doctor gives you dilating eye drops, your eyes stay sensitive to light for a few hours, and you should arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home from your appointment.
